Before the first wave, Salty Seas asks two questions: what your pirate is called and where you want to wake up. Havana, Port, Jungle or your own Ship, then one click on Connect and you are standing below deck on a wooden sloop, with a server of other players somewhere out on the same ocean. Salty Seas is a free multiplayer pirate game you play in your browser. You sail and fight ships, crew up with friends, fish, trade cargo and level up until the biggest warships are yours to command.

How It Works
Salty Seas, made by yp3d, puts everyone on a shared server of up to 250 players. You walk around in first person, climb aboard a ship and press F to take the helm or man a cannon. The Choose Ship screen lists 7 ships with their health, speed, turning, cannon count and size. The Sloop is open at level 1 with 152 health and 2 cannons, the Cutter opens at level 2, and the Frigate, Warship, Clipper and First Rate Ship follow at levels 8, 14, 20 and 26. The First Rate Ship carries 18 cannons and 306 health, while the Flying Dutchman is listed but cannot be unlocked.
Sailing has real rules here. The Angles of Sail screen explains that lowering the sails gets you moving, that the arrow on the map's compass shows the wind, and that the sails should sit halfway between your heading and the wind. When they stop flapping you are at top speed, and flapping sails cost up to 15% of your speed. Outside of battles there is plenty to do: the Awards screen tracks sharks and pumas hunted, fish caught, ships sunk and items sold to traders.
- Type a name, pick a spawn point and press Connect.
- Press Play to enter the world.
- Walk to the helm and press F to steer.
- Lower the sails and line them up with the wind.
- Man a cannon with F and fire with LEFT CLICK.
- Switch between weapons with the number keys.
- Earn levels to unlock bigger ships.
What Makes It Stand Out
- Shared ocean: Servers hold up to 250 players in one world.
- 7 ships: From the 2 cannon Sloop to the 18 cannon First Rate Ship.
- Sailing by the wind: Sail angle and the compass decide how fast you go.
- Crews and clans: Join a crew, invite friends and climb the Top Clans board.
- Life beyond battles: Fish, hunt sharks and pumas, and sell cargo to traders.
- Weekly leaderboards: This week's boards track Ship Damage, Player Kills, Fish Caught and trades.
Getting Started
- Open Angles of Sail before your first trip in Salty Seas. It explains the wind arrow and the halfway sail rule in one screen.
- Spawn on your Ship to sail right away. The town spawns are better for trading and exploring on foot.
- Watch the sails, not just the bow. Flapping sails mean you are losing speed.
- Join a crew. One player steering and another on the cannons beats sailing alone.
Going Further
Salty Seas rewards patience as much as aim. Levels unlock every ship, so early hours on the Sloop and Cutter are about learning the wind, the map and how the cannons handle. Bigger ships trade speed for power: the First Rate Ship has twice the health of the Sloop but turns much more slowly, which makes positioning in a fight more important. The Awards and weekly leaderboards give peaceful players goals too, since fishing, shark hunting and cargo trades all have their own boards. The top 50 players on each leaderboard even get a coloured name in chat.
Mistakes Worth Avoiding
- Sailing straight into the wind. A ship heading into the wind barely moves.
- Ignoring flapping sails. They can cost up to 15% of your speed.
- Fighting big ships too early. A Sloop with 2 cannons cannot trade broadsides with a warship.
- Going solo all the time. A crew splits the jobs of steering, sails and cannons.

Final Thoughts
The Salty Seas game is a big and lively pirate sandbox where sailing, fighting and trading all count toward your progress. Playing Salty Seas online works on a computer with a keyboard and mouse and on phones and tablets with touch controls, in both portrait and landscape. New players may find the sailing rules a lot to learn, but catching the wind just right and closing in on another ship is a great moment.
